"One Way Trip" features Kevin Rudolf, whom Wayne successfully collaborated with on "Let It Rock." This time, however, the result is a mess of stupid rhymes and over the top refrains. It's as if the rock backdrop somehow exposes every songwriting flaw and lays it bare. Wayne shows almost none of the chops he's displayed on prior recordings. The biggest problem with Rebirth, however, is its lyrically weak center. The disparate musical elements here just don't sound good together. There's a distinct oil and water feel to the proceedings. The production seems fairly tight, but the conceptual foundations are so flawed that even the most well-crafted tracks fail. Most of the time, however, Rebirth comes off as a kind of Frankenstein's monster - a gruesome combination of tired autotune, absurd riffs, stifled beats, and off-putting rhymes. "Ground Zero" is a particularly solid track with strong production, and "Paradice" is an enjoyable listen in spite of itself. There are times when Rebirth works alright. Jay-Z and Linkin Park's 2004 Collision Course was pretty good. To be clear, we've got nothing against rap-rock crossovers. Genre-bending is always a challenge, but maybe he's got what it takes to pull it off?. This is Lil Wayne's attempt at a rap-rock record. If you're a fan then you may have known this was coming for everyone else it's a warning. The album cover for Rebirth depicts Wayne with a guitar in his lap.
